Pine Ridge man gets 10-year sentence, blames alcohol

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Vine Philip Hayes of Pine Ridge will spend ten years in prison for being a part of another man’s death.
Hayes and two other men were all a part of beating a man to death on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
Hayes says the victim was his friend and blames alcohol for this crime. The 10-year sentence was a part of a plea agreement. The judge noted that Hayes could not afford to pay a fine, so she dropped the fine. Hayes will be a part of an addiction program while in prison.
