Sanford Health expands their neuro-pediatric services to Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Pediatric neurosurgery is a complex practice that many children and their families don’t have access to in Western South Dakota, but one East River doctor will lend his services once a month to those in need right here in the Black Hills.
Dr. Shawn Vuong, a neurosurgeon at Sanford Neurosurgery and Spine Clinic in Sioux Falls, is set to begin providing pediatric outreach services at Black Hills Pediatrics early next month. Vuong, the only board-certified pediatric surgeon in South Dakota, will schedule office visits and consultations offering what he says is a vital help to children who may not have easy access to it.
”Kids who need to drive for neurosurgical issues from essentially Rapid, Sturgis, all the surrounding areas within Rapid, you gotta either drive all the way to Denver which is really difficult for families. And like those small things of, even those just checking in with a surgeon like we do this yearly checks with CAT scans and stuff like that. For me to get out there once a month I think is gonna be huge for people,” said Vuong.
