Couple expecting first child after meeting on unique blind date
BETHEL, Ohio (WXIX/Gray News) - A couple with a unique beginning to their love story is expecting their first child.
In a world of dating apps, Savannah and Colt Reece first met the old-fashioned way: a blind date, but this one had a little twist to it.
They met in 2021 for a blind date photoshoot at East Fork Lake in Bethel, Ohio.
“Hannah blindfolded me and walked me over by the lake and had me stand there,” Colt Reece said. “They went to go get Savannah and blindfolded her at the car and then walked her down to me and had us stand back to back.”
Moments away from lifting their blindfolds, the pair say they were having second thoughts.
“I thought, ‘This is going to be an absolute train wreck,’” Colt Reece said.
Savannah Reece remembers thinking, “‘I should just go home now.’”
As soon as they locked eyes with one another, those thoughts quickly faded.
“First when I turned around there was a relief that it all wasn’t a practical joke set up by my friends,” Colt Reece said. “Like ‘OK, there’s someone here.’”
Savannah Reece said it was a bit awkward at first.
“At first, it’s awkward because you don’t know them, and then you have to get all cuddly with each other and do those awkward couple pictures, but we laughed the whole time.”
They say the laughter hasn’t stopped since.
The couple started dating shortly after and about a year later, they returned to that lake to take their engagement and wedding photos.
The couple is now moments away from celebrating another milestone. Their first baby boy is due Feb. 14.
Savannah and Colt Reece say they are looking forward to parenthood and can’t wait to share their story with their son when he grows up.
Believe it or not, Savannah Reece is not the first member of her family to meet the love of their life on a blind date. Her parents met on a blind date that was also at East Fork Lake.
