MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) - A former leasing office employee scammed people out of their rent money using Cash App, according to police.

A woman says she received a text message as a reminder to pay her rent, saying she could send her rent money to a Cash App account, which she did.

The leasing office at at the apartments on Forest Hill Court in Memphis, Tennessee, told the woman that they never received the money, but recognized the number to belong to a former employee.

Several other tenants say they were victims of the same scam.

Police tracked down the Cash App account to Erica Norris. She is charged with theft of property and computer crime.
