FARGO, N.D. (KVLY/Gray News) - Emergency crews rushed to an area of south Fargo Friday afternoon for reports of rapid gunfire, KVLY reports.

Fargo police said one officer has died and two others were in critical condition as a result of injuries sustained during Friday night’s incident.

The suspect, who has not been named, also died as a result of a shooting and one civilian was seriously injured, according to Fargo police.

Witnesses told KVLY it started after a traffic collision on 25th Street South near 9th Avenue South.

Police have yet to release information about the events leading up to the shooting, but witnesses said they heard more than 40 shots, likely from an automatic weapon.

On Friday evening, law enforcement were seen filing in and out of an area hospital with a group of officers gathered outside of the emergency room.

The Fargo police and fire departments were assisted by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, FBI, and U.S. Marshals Service at the shooting scene.

Authorities said the victims will not be publicly identified until family members are notified.
