American Legions National Commander wraps up tour in S.D.

The new American Legion National Commander, Brett Reistad wrapped up his tour of South Dakota Friday.

He started in East River making his way to the Black Hills visiting Veterans Hospitals, Homes and American Legions post. He made stops in Aberdeen, Pierre, Watertown and Pine Ridge. Today he visited the Black Hills National Cemetery for a wreath laying ceremony for Charles Windolph. Windolph received the military's highest decoration,the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the Battle of Little Bighorn. South Dakota is the 11th state Reistad visited and he was quite impressed with what he saw.

"I think everything left an impression on me, I was very impressed with the legionnaires of this state, their commitment to the programs of the American Legion and just their patriotism and their hospitality and beyond that the VA opening their arms for allowing us the opportunity to go through and ask questions and speak to some of the patients," said Reistad. "I was very impressed with the VA system that you have in South Dakota."

Next stop for Reistad is for a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day, after that he will be touring in Missouri.
