(Gray News) - Hurricane hunters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration encountered a bumpy ride while flying through Hurricane Milton while it was a Category 5 storm.

The hurricane hunters were aboard Aircraft Operations Center’s WP-3D Orion #NOAA43 plane, which is called “Miss Piggy.”

Miss Piggy is used to collect data and help improve the forecast and support hurricane research.

The video from NOAA Programs and Integration Engineer Nick Underwood was posted on X.

The turbulence caused several loose items, including Underwood’s cell phone and wallet, to get thrown around.

Milton is expected to make landfall in Florida Wednesday night.
