CLINTON COUNTY, Iowa (KWQC/Gray News) - Three children were killed and four others injured in a crash in Iowa Monday morning, according to authorities.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office said the two-vehicle crash happened just before 9:20 a.m. near the 3700 block of Highway 30 in Clinton County.

Deputies said they arrived at the scene to find an SUV with severe rear-end damage in the ditch and a flatbed truck on the side of the road with front-end damage.

The SUV was occupied by two adults, ages 38 and 22, and four children under the age of five, officials said. A 70-year-old driver was inside the truck.

Deputies said two children were found dead on the scene. Another child under the age of five was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospital, where they later died.

The two adults in the SUV, the surviving child and the driver of the truck were all taken to area hospitals for treatment.

The case remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
