WASHINGTON (Gray DC) -A candle-lighting ceremony at the White House commemorated the one-year anniversary of the deadly October 7th attack in southern Israel by the terrorist group Hamas.

President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were joined in the Blue Room by Rabbi Aaron Alexander.

In a statement the President referred to October 7th as “the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust” and also condemned what he called the “vicious surge in antisemitism in America” since the attacks.

At the Vice President’s residence, Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff planted a pomegranate bush. As protesters chanted nearby, the Vice president told reporters that the goal is to get ceasefire negotiations on track.

“We’re not giving up. We’re doing everything we can possibly do to get the ceasefire hostage deal done. It’s one of the most important ways we will be able to end this war and bring any type of stability to the region. It’s one of the highest priorities of this administration”

In a statement, President Joe Biden said “far too many civilians have suffered far too much during this year of conflict.”
