1 dead, 17 injured when bus crashes on Arizona interstate
PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) - A bus crash in Arizona has left one person dead and several others injured.
The crash occurred at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 10 in downtown Phoenix, according to the Department of Public Safety.
DPS confirmed one person had died as a result of the crash. Their identity has not been released at this time.
The Phoenix Fire Department reported 23 people were on the bus when the crash occurred. They said 17 of the people on board were taken to the hospital with “mostly minor injuries.”
Some passengers were seen being loaded onto stretchers while others were spotted waiting outside the bus along with their pets.
The bus was blocking several lanes for a few hours, but the freeway fully reopened around 9 a.m.
No other vehicles were involved. The cause of the crash and the victim’s cause of death remain under investigation.

“An accident occurred involving a third-party bus operator at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Saturday on Interstate 10, near Phoenix. We understand 23 passengers were on board. At this time, we are unable to provide further comment. Our thoughts are with all those affected.
“Please note that FlixBus is not a bus operator but a broker of services and tickets, connecting passengers to transportation. All schedules are operated by third-party bus operators. We will continue to seek updates from the bus operator and authorities as the investigation progresses.”
