Older couple killed when SUV driver fails to slow down, crashes into their golf cart, troopers say

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN/Gray News) - Authorities in North Carolina say two people have died after their golf cart was involved in a crash with an SUV.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol says the crash happened Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 11 and Tulls Mill Road in Lenoir County.

According to the highway patrol, Robert Jones, 82, and Marjorie Jones, 76, were identified as the couple killed in the collision.

Authorities said the SUV’s driver, Larry Pink, was traveling south on Highway 11 when he failed to slow down and crashed into the golf cart.

The couple was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hall is facing charges that include failure to reduce speed and misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Highway 11 was shut down for nearly three hours for the on-scene investigation.
