Father turns in 10-year-old son for making school shooting threat, sheriff says
WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV/Gray News) – A 10-year-old boy in Florida is facing a felony charge after his father turned him in Thursday for threatening to “shoot up” an area high school.
According to the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, the boy threatened to “shoot up” Wakulla High School, which is about 30 miles south of Tallahassee.
The investigation started when a Wakulla High School student reported to school officials Wednesday afternoon that he had participated in a Snapchat conversation with an unidentified person who said, “Yes I’m finna shoot up your school it’s yalls last day.”
The school resource officer then initiated a criminal investigation.
Law enforcement spent the rest of Wednesday and early Thursday morning investigating the source and location of the threat.
Early Thursday morning, officers contacted the 10-year-old at his home in Leon County and interviewed him.
The 10-year-old’s father had turned him in, the sheriff’s office said.
The boy was arrested and charged with making a written or electronic threat to kill, do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism. His name was not publicly released.
After the arrest, the sheriff’s office then informed Wakulla County school officials that there was no imminent threat to Wakulla High or any other school.
The news comes after a slew of arrests were made within the past two weeks in connection to other school threats in the area.
