JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV/Gray News) - An unexpected guest showed up at a sheriff’s office golf invitational last week.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook about a “wanted” fox, seen stealing a golf ball during the tournament at the Crystal Highlands Golf Course Friday.

“Do you recognize this fox?” the office said in their post. “It’s been identified as a Mammal of Interest in a stealing case ...”

Photos posted to the Facebook page show the fox playing with the golf ball before stealing it and walking away.

“It’s believed this fox may have accomplices and they may have victimized numerous golfers,” the office joked.

The invitational benefited the Jefferson County Deputy Welfare Fund.

“Rest assured, this wily critter will be found and brought to justice,” the sheriff’s office said at the end of their post.
