BREMEN, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) – A high school quarterback in Georgia was crowned homecoming king from his hospital bed as he recovers from serious injuries he suffered on the field.

On Friday, Bremen High School posted a video of senior quarterback Carson Kimball adorned with a royal blue crown and sash, crowning him the homecoming king of 2024.

Bremen High School is about an hour’s drive west of Atlanta.

Kimball was seriously injured during a game on Aug. 30 after he took a hard hit and didn’t get back up.

It looked like any normal tackle, but when he didn’t move, the stadium went silent, Bremen High School Principal Tim Huff said.

Kimball was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he underwent spinal surgery. He has no feeling below the waist, according to Huff.

But on Sept. 1, Kimball’s mother said he moved his toes while sleeping.

“He still can’t feel anything. But, it’s still huge,” she wrote on a GoFundMe page. “I know it’s a baby step but these prayers are working.”

The high school and surrounding community have rallied around Kimball and his family, selling T-shirts to raise money, spreading the online fundraiser and collecting donations themselves.

“Just seeing how the community has come together has been amazing,” Cole Kimball, Carson Kimball’s brother, told WANF. “Just the amount of support that they have given has been overwhelming – amazing for us to see just every little thing that they have done.”

Doctors said there is hope for Kimball to make a recovery, but he has a long road ahead of him.
