MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVLY/Gray News) - A 12-year-old Minnesota boy is in the hospital after jumping out a second-story window to escape his burning home.

The initial call came in at 1:45 p.m. Thursday about a house fire in Moorhead, KVLY reports.

Family members say a 12-year-old boy was flown to Minneapolis for smoke inhalation trauma care.

“They think he’s going to make it. He’s going to be OK,” Angela Santoya said. “They just want to make sure that nothing else is going to affect him once tubes are taken out.”

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the devastating blaze. However, damages are extensive, and three of the family’s dogs were killed in the fire.

A GoFundMe started for the family, which includes six children, says the fire destroyed everything, leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They are now looking for help to rebuild their lives from scratch.

“We’re honestly very thankful for all the support, all the donations, everything,” Santoya said. “It’s amazing. Everyone has come together to help him out in this time of need.”
