CHICAGO (Gray Media) - The Democratic National Convention came to an end Thursday. The four-day pep rally in Chicago concluded with a party nominee no one expected just more than a month ago.

A bad debate performance from President Joe Biden on June 27 demoralized many Democrats. Thursday night, the party appeared as energized as many can remember with a new generation led by Vice President Kamala Harris taking up the mantle with full backing from leaders past present and future.

“I accept your nomination to be President of the United States of America,” said Vice President Harris to a raucous crowd.

It was a moment in history and a burst of hope for a party turning a new page. The first black woman or Asian woman to accept a major party nomination introduced herself to the nation once again.

“The path that led me here in recent weeks was no doubt unexpected. But I’m no stranger to unlikely journeys,” said Vice President Harris.

The vice president acknowledged the work of President Joe Biden who made way for her, pointing to the perceived successes of their administration as proof she can assume his role. Harris then took on her opponents, painting them as backwards politicians trying to take this country decades in the past.

“Donald Trump is an unserious man. But the consequences of putting Donald Trump back in the White House are extremely serious,” said Vice President Harris.

The vice president ended the night and weeklong party with a note of optimism. After weeks of building momentum, a convention boost will likely add more fuel to their fire. But soon, the still fresh campaign will be thrown into the deep end for the sprint to election day.

“I see a nation ready to move forward. Ready for the next step, in the incredible journey that is America,” said Vice President Harris.

That sprint toward November begins immediately for the Harris Walz ticket, storming the battleground states, hoping to capitalize on a fresh wave of enthusiasm.
