TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) - Two brothers have died in Alabama after drowning at an area lake over the weekend.

Talladega County Sheriff Jimmy Kilgore said it was a case of one brother trying to save another.

The deputy corner of Talladega County identified the brothers as 19-year-old Kevin Covington and 21-year-old Joshua Covington.

According to the sheriff, the two brothers were swimming down by a dam at Logan Martin Lake late Sunday evening when one became distressed and went underwater.

The other brother jumped in to help but he too became distressed and went under.

Kilgore said this was a tragic accident, and his heart goes to the family.

“It’s a terrible story because a family lost two sons in just the blink of an eye, it’s awful,” Kilgore.

The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office said its investigation is also continuing.
