MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WFIE/Gray News) - Police in Kentucky arrested a couple on child abuse charges, saying their 3-year-old daughter was never transitioned to solid food.

Officers say Jayda McDowell and Cody Alfred, both 32, are charged with criminal abuse of a child. They are being held on $1,000 cash bonds in the Hopkins County Jail, WFIE reports.

Police say the couple’s 3-year-old daughter was only being given milk. She had calcium deposits on her teeth, according to officers.

Police say the couple claim the girl had a disorder and couldn’t eat solid food, but they never got a diagnosis from a doctor.

The 3-year-old, who is now in the custody of social services, is doing well, according to police.
