Jealous ex-boyfriend broke into woman’s house and stabbed her 30 times, reports say
(Gray News) - An Ohio man was sentenced after admitting that he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home after a breakup and stabbed her 30 times.
On Thursday, 27-year-old Chance Donohoe was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 31 years.
He pleaded guilty last month to aggravated murder and gross abuse of a corpse, according to a press release.
Officials said Donohoe forced his way into 29-year-old Shannon Hiott’s home in Columbus and stabbed her because he thought she may have been seeing someone else.
Shortly after, Donohoe called 911 to tell them he had killed her.
Hiott and Donohoe had previously dated for about a year and a half before she ended the relationship, Dispatch reported.
Hiott’s sister told the outlet that she blocked Donohoe’s phone number and social media accounts.
Donohoe was charged with two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, aggravated burglary and abuse of a corpse, but the other charges were eventually dropped, WBNS reported.
During sentencing, Hiott’s family gave a victim impact statement.
“How scared she must have been. You are a foot taller and 100 pounds heavier,” Hiott’s mother, Jamie said in court. “You had all that time to change your mind, but you’re a monster.”
