NTSB displays Boeing door plug from Alaska Airlines blowout ahead of investigative hearing
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - On Tuesday, the National Transportation Safety Board gave the media a rare look inside its Washington, DC lab to see the door plug that blew out of an Alaska Airlines flight earlier this year.
The door was displayed one week before the start of the NTSB’s investigative hearing into Alaska Airlines 1282. The flight was scheduled to fly from Portland, Oregon to Ontario International Airport in California on Jan. 5, but shortly after take off, the door plug blew out while it was 16,000 feet in the air.
All 177 people on board the plane survived. Eight suffered from minor injured during the incident, which led to a rapid decompression in the cabin, and an emergency landing in Portland.
The NTSB later said in a preliminary report that four key bolts were missing from the door of the Boeing 737 Max 9 plane.
The agency did not reveal any new investigative information on Tuesday.
The investigative hearing will take place on Aug. 6 and Aug. 7 from 9 am to 7 p.m. ET.
