STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) - Surveillance video caught a Chick-fil-A worker fighting off an armed robber earlier this month in Georgia.

The suspect, Tommie Lee Williams, 51, was arrested on Wednesday and faces charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and second-degree criminal damage to property.

On July 1, police said a Chick-fil-A worker called 911 around 4:30 a.m. after the suspect allegedly used a rock to smash the drive-thru window and got into the kitchen, telling the driver he would die if he did not open the safe.

The suspect had a gun, but that did not stop the employee from fighting him off.

The Chick-fil-A worker told police that he did not know the safe’s combination, so he decided to fight the suspect.

Surveillance video footage shows the two wrestling over the gun for at least four minutes, throwing punches and kicks.

The suspect eventually ran away through a rear exit door. Police later found the vehicle they believe he used to drive to the Chick-fil-A, which led to Williams’ identification and arrest.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department and U.S. Marshals took Williams into custody.
