Delegates from all over the country gathered in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention. On night three, Gray Television Washington News Bureau Correspondent Stetson Miller spoke with them to find out what it was like to be there.

More than 2,000 delegates were at the RNC, the people who cast their votes to officially nominate former President Donald Trump as the Republican candidate for the 2024 Presidential election.

Ed Tarpley, Louisiana Delegate: “It’s been a great time here. I mean, you meet people from all over the country that share the same values and principles that you share.”

Caroline Smith, Nevada Delegate: “It’s to me, the most emotional thing anyone could go through. It’s just I love it.”

Barbara Finger, Wisconsin Alternate Delegate: “It’s like, wow.”

The 2024 RNC has been thrilling for many delegates, like Barbara Finger, Wisconsin Alternate Delegate. This was not her first time at a convention, and she didn’t want to miss this year’s in her home state. “It’s like, wow,” she said. She went on, “I wanted to be a delegate. I’ve done it twice before — in 2012 in Tampa and 2016 in Cleveland — and I enjoy the excitement.”

Unity has been a common message from delegates, something the Republican Party was actively pushing at the convention.

Dr. David Tisher, Texas Delegate: “The president has been amazing. J.D. Vance is a great choice. This is really a unified convention.”

Micheal Tiedeman, Nebraska Delegate: “We’ve seen a lot of people starting to kind of let go of what’s happening, their differences, and starting to unify around President Trump.”

Gary Bond, Kansas Delegate: “Got to have unity if you’re going to win.”

Idaho delegate and Rep. Russ Fulcher (R-ID) said he experienced unity here too, especially after the attempted assassination of Trump.

“I think it just really set a tone that is unique for this convention. And I think it’s been a positive one, one of sincerity. And I think the good people are unifying as a function of that,” said Fulcher.

The excitement among delegates is only building as Trump moves forward in the 2024 election.

Ed Tarpley, Louisiana Delegate: “President Trump is the answer to the direction the country is headed right now.”

Barbara Finger, Wisconsin Alternate Delegate: “He’s unabashedly pro-American. He loves his country.”WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - There are more than 2000 delegates here at the RNC, these are the people who cast their votes to officially make former President Trump the Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election.
