1-year-old boy dies after being pulled from backyard pool

PHOENIX (AZFamily/Gray News) — A 1-year-old boy has died after being pulled from a backyard pool in north Phoenix.

Police identified the boy as Zion Rodgers.

Crews were called Tuesday at around 1:30 p.m. to a home on Villa Maria Drive near intersections with 27th Avenue and Union Hills Drive.

Phoenix Fire officials say the boy was found unconscious in a backyard pool and that CPR was already in progress as firefighters arrived.

Phoenix police officers later arrived at the home to firefighters administering CPR to the boy.

The toddler was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead.

It’s unknown how long the child was in the pool.

Phoenix police are continuing to investigate what led to the drowning.
