Strong storms and breezy Sunday into Monday, followed by a brief cool-down
This quick update has the details on when and where storms may fire and when the lower 80s will return.
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - It was another breezy time out there, but it was a lovely day by all today as sunny skies prevailed, even though we did have some clouds swinging through the area. We’re watching for some southerly winds to switch into the area, which could sometimes be gusty. Our winds will be just on the breezy side tonight at best, however those winds will quickly increase as well as humidity into tomorrow where we could see 90s and some storm chances.
Some of those storms will turn severe in an isolated fashion, especially near and in the Black Hills, with a threat of large hail and damaging winds. Those should be quick hitters, though. The more widespread activity appears to be to our north, where a slight risk clips a portion of Carter County, Montana, and Harding County, South Dakota.
Another active day is potentially in the works for Monday, and we’ll be warm as well, with upper 80s to lower 90s again, possibly through our area, except in the Hills. Monday’s more widespread severe storm risk is towards our East from Ziebach County through Bennett County. Things start to calm down into your Tuesday, the pick day of the week, with temperatures hovering around 80 in most of the area for some outdoor enjoyment.
We do, however, run the risk of some afternoon showers and rumbles of thunder, those rumbles most likely being heard further to the South where there’s better energy to kick up thunderstorms. We run a better risk of storms on Wednesday as another impulse slides through our area, and then we clear out with temperatures around average for the 4th of July. That changes, however, as we move through the weekend and into the week after, we’re 90s and storms could be expected by the 7th or the 8th, looking at things in the long range.
