Young Oglala Lakota teen stars in new Kevin Costner movie
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Amos Little, 13, is living the dream after being cast in Kevin Costner’s film series Horizons, even if he was a little nervous at first.
“At first, it was like, nerve-wracking and you know, anxious, and then once I got more on set and further into filming I got comfortable. You know like, the set crew made me feel welcomed,” Little said.
Little is Oglala Lakota, and he is from 10 miles North of Pine Ridge. He didn’t even consider acting at first until his mom, Blue Little, showed him an ad for a casting.
“She showed me it and she was like let’s, why don’t, let’s just try it out and see if you get the role and then a couple weeks later, Kevin Costner himself called me directly and said I got the role,” Little said.
Costner was Little’s mentor on set and personally coached Little on how to best portray his character, Ralston. Since it was Little’s first time acting he said he was happy to get help from the professionals.
“Kevin coached me and talked me through how Ralston is. How he acts, and how he talks,” Little continued. “There’s a little bit of myself in there.”
Blue couldn’t be more proud to see her son on the big screen.
“It’s emotional, I cried seeing him the first time in LA at the premiere. We had a little bit of a time frame where he was on set filming too where we were able to see a 30-minute trailer and it was very emotional then too,” Blue said.
Little is still getting used to seeing himself on the big screen, but he had fun at the movie’s premiere in L.A.
“It was cool, it was fun, got to meet more celebrities, even got to sign a couple stuff for my first time,” Little said.
On June 28, he bought out the 3 p.m. showing of the movie so all of his friends and family could see the hard work he’s done.
