Severe Storms Look Likely For Thursday. When the Storms Arrive.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -

Storms will end before midnight and then we become partly cloudy into the early morning hours. Temperatures overnight stay mild with locations only getting into the 60s. Tomorrow, there is a severe weather risk. A level 3 out of 5, enhanced risk is in place for all of western South Dakota with a marginal and slight risk extending into parts of NE Wyoming. Main threats for severe weather include damaging winds up to 80 mph and large hail, possibly up to 3 inches in diameter. Timing out the event shows that we are going to see storms start to fire up in NE Wyoming at lunchtime. Those storms start to strengthen by the time they reach the SD border. They will be clear out of the area by around 10 PM. Overnight, temperatures stay mild after storms end across the region. 60s are likely almost everywhere, with only a few places in the hills dropping into the upper 50s. Tomorrow, thunderstorms become likely by the time we get to the afternoon and a few of them will be severe. High temperatures make it back into the 90s, giving plenty of fuel for those storms to use. The next three days in NE Wyoming and the Northern Hills are expecting temperatures to return to the 70s for highs after thunderstorms impact all of the area on Thursday. 70s last into the weekend for most, including Rapid City where we get a short break from the heat. 80s return for Sunday with more storms in the forecast. Those storms continue Monday with 80s lasting all of next week.
