‘Creek Fire’ in northeastern Wyoming contained

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Creek Fire that started in northeastern Wyoming last Tuesday burned more than 1,400 acres.

Crook County Volunteer Fire Warden Charles Harrison says the fire has been completely contained, however, the department and other agencies are still trying to control it in case another fire breaks out.

To help with containment during the height of the fire, the department received assistance from the U.S. Forest Service Black Hills National Forest, fire departments throughout South Dakota and local volunteers.

Cleanup efforts have begun around the affected area to make sure the fire is stable and secured.

Harrison added it’s imperative to ensure that there aren’t any hot spots and erosion in the area.

“With the nature of the winds and things like that. The crews have done an awesome job out there cleaning it up, but there’s always the potential that there could still be something in there,” Harrison said.

Harrison said the fire didn’t result in any injuries or structural damage and he is hoping the fire will be completely controlled by the end of the week.
