RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - June 18 is National Fishing Day and with that, many may be wondering how they can get into the hobby and where they can go to fish here in the Black Hills.

Despite being a landlocked region, the Black Hills area has a wide range of options to choose from when considering your next outing. From the beautiful reservoirs on this side of the state like Pactola and Deerfield to the various rivers and streams, you just have to decide what feels best for you.

One local bait and tackle shop Rooster, has printed out maps that they use to help guide new fishermen through the process. Additionally, it can be a misconception that fishing has a high entry cost. Shops like Rooster have a wide range of options when making a kit for fishing with the lowest being a simple two-dollar bobber and reel.

Aside from being wallet-friendly, fishing can be a great activity to spend with the ones you care about.

”Yeah it’s the best like every...on Father’s Day me and my daughter went out and we’ll have that memory. And each time is a little different and you do catch the big whopper and you always have a story to tell,” Jeremy Cummings the Store Manager for Rooster said.

So if you find yourself looking for something to do this week, consider heading out and casting a line.
