MYRTLE BEACH, SC. (WMBF/Gray News) - The family of a 66-year-old woman is mourning her death after tragedy struck while she was relaxing on the beach in South Carolina.

Authorities said 66-year-old Sandra “Sandy” Schultz-Peters was sitting on the beach Thursday afternoon when witnesses reported she was hit by a police truck patrolling the beach.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the truck was coming onto the beach from the Nash Street beach access when it turned onto the sand and hit Schultz-Peters.

Beachgoers rushed to her aid, some even helped lift the truck off her, but she later died at the hospital, WMBF reported.

Schultz-Peters’ family is taking the time to share everything they will miss about her.

Her brother, David Schultz, said she was well-known around the beach because she walked every day with her two dogs Luther and Sophie.

Schultz said he saw her the morning she was killed and that he will miss when she’d stop by to visit him on her long walks.

“She is well, well, well missed. God put her on this Earth for a reason I believe and someone took it away and I’ll deal with that down the road. Sandy was probably the best person I ever had in my life,” he said.

Schultz said he’s trying to stay strong through the tragedy.

“It’s killing me, it’s really hurting, really bad. I’m just trying to keep everything together, but I’m the one that’s losing it the most,” said Schultz.

He said the family is now making funeral arrangements and has asked for privacy as they continue to mourn.
