Active weekend with big cool-down into the new week
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -After some noisy, windy, and large hail-producing storms roll out of our area after dinner, we are looking at some partly cloudy conditions with a good respite ahead of our next batch of activity. Tonight goes down to the upper 60s except in the Hills, where some upper 40s are possible.
The radar stays quiet throughout the day with scattered clouds, but an overnight storm threat waits in the wings. We again have a level 2/5 (“Slight”) severe weather risk with two rounds of activity lined up. One looks to roll through Oglala Lakota and Bennett Counties around our late evening newscasts potentially, then another through the I-90 corridor into the wee hours of the morning. These storms mainly look like they will contain large hail, but some isolated damaging wind gusts in one or two places are not out of the question.
For Monday, a brisk front will march through early in the morning, toppling temperatures again, this time into the mid-60s for many of us. We wind up getting better clearing into your Tuesday, but the cooler airmass with winds out of the NW will still be in charge, only allowing us to be near 70. Quite the shock to the system for those of us who were ready for summer & hitting the pools.
Expect a warmup throughout the rest of the week with the 80s returning. Along with re-entering that warmth into the area, new chances of thunderstorms appear to come right back next weekend.
