Literary events to come: Big Read Grant awarded to Rapid City Arts Council
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Rapid City Arts Council was recently awarded the Big Read Grant from the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA).
The grant is awarded after a panel of NEA experts examine the proposed projects for artistic excellence.
The Big Read grant is a partnership between the NEA and Arts Midwest meant to help communities broaden their understanding of the world around them through a shared reading experience.
The Rapid City Arts Council is working closely with the Rapid City Public Library to host several literary events based on the book The Bear by Andrew Krivak.
“It’s a very like wholesome and kind and like loving to the environment and respectful of how we are all in this together and so I think that book will just really exemplify our area and like where we live,” Marketing Director at the Rapid City Arts Council Maggie Wince said.
The Big Read events will start in November of this year and span through June 2025.
The book focuses on a dystopian world where a girl must find her way home after getting lost in nature with the guidance of a bear she meets while on her adventure.
