ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) - Police are investigating after four people were shot at Peachtree Center mall off Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta.

Police said four people were shot at 235 Peachtree Street, including the suspect. All of those with gunshot wounds are alert, conscious and breathing.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said the shooting happened in the Peachtree Center mall’s food court after a fight between two people. He said the building was quickly put on lockdown during the incident.

After a brief altercation in the food court, the suspect shot a 47-year-old man from Grayson, a 69-year-old woman from East Point and a 70-year-old woman from Atlanta. That’s when an off-duty police officer intervened and shot the suspect.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, the suspected shooter was 34 years old and was a convicted felon who had been arrested nearly a dozen times.

Dozens of officers from several law enforcement agencies, including some wearing tactical gear and carrying rifles, are milling Peachtree Street as the investigation continues. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation.
