Voter options in the South Dakota Primary

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - South Dakota’s Primary is Tuesday and with that voters need to ensure they’ve done everything they can so they can make their voices heard. You have a couple of options if you want to vote in the primary on Tuesday.

“People can either absentee vote or they can vote on election day and those are pretty much the two options. With absentee voting, you can either request a ballot online, you can download the ballot from online, or you can go to the auditor’s office in each county,” Jill Franken the volunteer state president for AARP South Dakota said.

Of course, to be able to vote on election day you need to be registered, a process that can not* be done the day of.

“There’s a lot of different ways and entities that you can go to to register to vote. You can go to your county and register to vote, you can go online and get a voter registration and be able to download that and then take that to the county to be able to register and then vote. So there are options it’s just not an option to do same-day registration,” Franken said.

Franken encourages everyone to get out and perform their civic duty regardless of who they vote for.

“Bottom line, it’s really important that everyone exercises their right to vote it’s the basic right we have as the citizens of our country is to exercise that right. So we’d encourage everyone to vote on Tuesday and again in the November elections,” Franken said.
