Pup rescued from port-a-potty now looking for forever home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA/Gray) - A puppy found malnourished in a port-a-potty has captured the hearts of hundreds online and is now looking for his forever home.

The dog, now called “Louie” as a nod to where he was rescued, was rescued in late April at eight weeks old. The pit bull-terrier mix had been abandoned in a port-a-potty and found by a city employee in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control said Louie was later taken to a foster home to begin his healing journey.

The organization said in a Facebook post on May 19 that Louie was making great strides in his foster home, gaining weight and no longer being afraid of people and loud noises. They said that Louis is now ready to join his forever home and is up for adoption at the shelter.

Shelter leaders said Louie will need a special home because of his traumatic past. They said he needs a home with at least one other dog who can help him “grow in his confidence and learn how to ‘dog.’” They also said Louie needs a “more predictable environment” with older children and preferably no young children.

He will stay in his foster home until he is officially adopted.

Those interested in adopting him must first fill out an application (for Louie A512570) online. The shelter said a staff member will then call those who are approved to set up a meeting time.

“We appreciate each and every one of you for showing so much love for Louie. We are excited for the future he has ahead of him,” shelter leaders wrote.
