Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity helps people achieve their dream of home ownership
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Richard Millikan, a single father of two working at a restaurant in Lead, can finally call himself a homeowner. Millikan spent two years as a partner with Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity to get to this point, and Executive Director Scott Engmann said he was proud of Millikan’s hard work.
“A single dad with two younger girls, and just doing his best to work hard, to take care of his family and now become a homeowner,” Engmann said.
Millikan’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity involved hard work, and partners need to pass income qualifications, develop a mortgage payment plan, and engage in “sweat equity,” building homes for others.
Millikan said he doesn’t see this milestone as the end of a long process, but rather the beginning of a new chapter.
“I think my journey is just beginning, but it’s, you know, everything I hoped for,” Millikan concluded.
Engmann mentioned Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity is always looking for volunteers, donors, and land for home building.
