Woman convicted in connection with Jennifer Dulos’ death sentenced to 20 years

STAMFORD, Conn. (WFSB/Gray News) - A woman convicted of crimes in connection with the disappearance and killing of Jennifer Dulos, a mother from Connecticut, was sentenced by a state judge on Friday.

Michelle Troconis was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Her sentencing will be suspended after 14.5 years and she will serve five years probation.

In February, a jury found Troconis guilty on six counts, including conspiracy to commit murder, two separate counts of conspiracy to commit tampering with evidence, two separate counts of tampering with physical evidence, and second-degree hindering prosecution.

Her bond was set at $6 million, which she was never able to post.

Dulos disappeared in May 2019 after she dropped her children off at school in New Canaan. Her body was never found. She was officially declared dead earlier this year.

Dulos’ estranged husband, Fotis Dulos, was charged with murder; however, he took his own life in January 2020.

Troconis was dating Fotis Dulos at the time of Jennifer Dulos’ disappearance.

Troconis’ attorney, Jon Schoenhorn, said on Thursday that both sides have up to two hours to talk ahead of the sentencing.

He said Troconis will have between 12 and 20 people speak on her behalf. People have flown in from around the country and from other countries to support her. He also said people wrote and submitted 65 letters to the judge in support of Troconis.

Troconis herself has a right to speak, but Schoenhorn said he had no comment on if she would do so.

Carrie Luft, a friend of Jennifer Dulos, said that family and friends prepared statements for the court as requested and would likely comment after the sentencing.

The prosecutor’s office, meanwhile, said on Thursday it could not comment on ongoing matters.

The judge will take a break after the comments and later come down with the sentencing. The sentence itself was expected to be announced later Friday afternoon.
