Learn an instrument for National Buy a Musical Instrument Day
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Starting a hobby can be an intimidating task from thinking about how you want to budget time and money to enjoy it, one example is learning to play an instrument.
In honor of National Buy a Musical Instrument Day, the owner of Perfect Wave Productions spoke with us about the value of learning to play an instrument.
When it comes to learning an instrument, many of the same pitfalls apply. It can be expensive to find all the right equipment and the right instrument for you, especially if don’t have someone knowledgeable to help you with the process.
Scott Gooch is the owner of Perfect Wave Productions and says it’s a good balance between a desire to play and enjoying playing by itself. He says that having a good teacher and a commitment to learning can go a long way. More than anything, he says the investment can be worth it.
“When you’re playing in a band or in an environment where other people are playing you’re communicating with them and it’s a special kind of communication that only musicians understand. When you’re working on a song or playing a song with someone even if they barely know it you’re teaching it to them, and they’re teaching it to you. It’s just the comradery of learning it and having fun doing it,” Gooch said.
Gooch says the most important thing is to try and be comfortable with failing, he says that practice is the best teacher you could ask for.
