Worker electrocuted while cutting down trees on a private property
ACWORTH, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) – A worker was electrocuted while cutting down trees in Georgia Monday, according to the Acworth Police Department.
“He had taken his chainsaw, and that’s what caught the power line, and it was all over for him,” neighbor Debbie Carter said.
Police said, the man who was not identified, was working for an independent tree service company on private property when he died.
“Unfortunately, he lost his life and it’s a very sad situation today,” Acworth Police Cpl. Eric Mistretta said.
Police and Cobb County Fire worked with Acworth Power to get the man down from the tree he was harnessed in.
“The power company showed up. They brought a large bucket truck to assist us. They also killed the power lines and covered the power lines for the safety of our crews,” said Lt. Steve Bennett with Cobb County Fire.
“It was… it was awful,” Carter said. “And then when you saw him hanging there, it was very, very disturbing.”
Neighbors questioned why the power was still on when the tree trimmers were out working.
“I called Acworth Power,” Carter said. “Whoever answered the phone, I gave them a detailed message and I said time is of the essence because don’t know if they’re doing this, how they’re supposed to be doing it.”
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the man’s death.
