Boy, 3, found dead in irrigation canal after walking away from home
ROCKY FORD, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) - The body of a 3-year-old who went missing over the weekend has been found.
After nearly two days of searching on foot, in vehicles, with drones and using dogs, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation confirmed the boy was found in an irrigation canal.
Amari Galan went missing early Saturday morning in Rocky Ford wearing only a diaper.
Law enforcement officials believe he slipped out of the house and walked away on his own.
Rocky Ford police said Amari was autistic and was considered special needs.
“It is with great sadness that the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, along with Rocky Ford Police, the Otero County Sheriff’s Office and Otero County coroner, can confirm the discovery of a body in an irrigation canal earlier today is that of a 3-year-old boy who was reported missing Saturday morning,” the Colorado Bureau of Investigation stated in a press release. “Law enforcement wishes to share its condolences with the family of Amari Galan.”
Investigators focused on the Caitlin Canal that runs directly behind the child’s home.
Search and rescue crews found the boy’s body several miles downstream at around 5 p.m. on Sunday.
