RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seatbelts are one of the most effective ways to prevent injuries and even death in car accidents, yet too many drivers and passengers neglect to buckle up.

That’s why Pennington County is working to enhance its road safety with the “Click It or Ticket” campaign. With travel increasing during tourist season, officers are stepping up patrols to enforce seatbelt laws and crack down on impaired driving.

“So during these types of campaigns, we specifically have law enforcement assigned for this, and that is incorporated with other agencies within Pennington County and local areas, so we are specifically looking for speeding, no seatbelts, and drinking and driving,” Amanda Swanson, a patrol sergeant at the Pennington County Sheriffs Office said.

This campaign serves as an urgent reminder of the importance of seatbelt use and responsible driving behaviors.
