BEAVER DAM, Ky. (WFIE/Gray News) - Six generations of family gathered on Mother’s Day to celebrate a Kentucky woman’s nearly 90 years of motherhood as well as her birthday.

Rava Lindsey celebrated her 104th birthday Sunday surrounded by family. The true gift of a life well lived comes from her 11 children, 33 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, 117 great-great-grandchildren and eight great-great-great-grandchildren.

It’s a legacy that her youngest child, Terry Lindsey, says is one to live up to.

“My mom and dad, they created a home of love,” he told WFIE.

After getting married at age 15, Rava Lindsey had her first child at just 16.

“I raised them the best I knew how, but God was with me,” she said.

Despite Rava Lindsey’s young age, the challenges brought by the Great Depression and the uncertainties of World War II, she stayed strong through it all, according to her children.

“She’s a friend, but she’s a mother first. You know what I mean? There’s a difference,” said her daughter, Brenda Clarke. “She’s just always been there. I can tell her anything, and I know she’s got my back, regardless.”

Even after more years than anyone could ever hope for with a parent, Rava Lindsey’s children visit her morning, noon and night at Beaver Dam Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

“We hope that we only done half as good with our kids and grandkids,” Terry Lindsey said.

After almost 90 years of motherhood, Rava Lindsey says the key to success is no secret.

“Mother is the best friend anyone can have,” she said.

Rava Lindsey has had several jobs throughout her life, including working at the nursing home where she now lives, but she says her favorite job of all is being a mother.
