RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - In a celebration of motherhood and community, participants came together for a family-friendly Mother’s Day 5K race called “Run for Their Lives!”

This race is put on annually by Lach’s Legacy, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and raising awareness for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

This event wasn’t just about racing; it was about coming together to honor the lives of children lost too soon.

Stephanie Moran, a mother who lost her six-month-old son Tayten to SIDS back in 2010, says she has found strength in joining this event year after year.

“Mother’s Day is one of the hardest days for any parent who’s lost their child, and for everyone to come together and focus on remembering your baby as a group, as your family and friends; it just fills your heart and makes you feel like they’re still included,” Moran said.

For Stephanie and countless others, participating in these types of events is more than running; it’s about finding connections with others who understand your pain.

“Having this, you feel like there’s still a piece of them here with you, and everybody is celebrating all of these lives, which is just amazing,” Moran said.

All proceeds from the event will support Lach’s legacy and the fight against SIDS in South Dakota.
