Rapid City prepares for travel season with new visitor center
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - As the summer travel season approaches, Rapid City is gearing up to provide visitors with new and exciting experiences.
On Thursday, the city opened its brand new visitor center located downtown, across the street from the Firehouse Brewery. Last year, the city’s visitor office space helped 1500 visitors, but with the new visitor center, expectations are through the roof.
Nestled comfortably on 613 Main Street, the Rapid City Visitor Center will be open daily through October from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“This year, we think we can serve probably around 20,000, if not more. We’ve obviously got visitor services and visitor information here; we will sell trolley tickets out of here; we hope to have pop-ups and other neat experiences for visitors throughout the summer, potentially some days of live music; so we’re still working on the programming, but that’s a very different experience for our visitors than what we’ve been able to give them in the past,” Brook Kaufman, CEO of Visit Rapid City said.
With this new development, Rapid City is prepared to attract more visitors and make sure they leave with a positive Black Hills experience.
