RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - As spring starts to bloom in the Black Hills, Sturgis residents are knee-deep in their annual city-wide cleanup week.

People are urged to take part in the city-wide event by putting unwanted items on the curb by 7 a.m. on their regular trash day. From there, city crews will collect the unwanted goods. Rick Bush, the director of public works in Sturgis, says the community spring clean-up is a great way to help the people of Sturgis.

“We’ve just always gone door-to-door to pick up items, and it’s just a great service that we can offer. It helps keep our community clean, so we don’t have a lot of unwanted items lying around in garages or on the sides of buildings. It’s just a good community event that we are able to do,” said Bush.

Some examples of items that qualify for pickup include appliances, bikes, furniture, and untreated lumber. Items city crews will not pick up include paint, batteries, chemicals, and tires.
