Boy survives after father jumps from bridge
MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU/Gray News) - A 3-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after police said his father was holding him as he jumped from a bridge on Wednesday.
Officers were called just before 12:50 a.m. after witnesses found a vehicle parked on an overpass and saw a 45-year-old man holding his son. The man then allegedly jumped off the bridge.
Police said a good Samaritan who stopped on the bridge tried to stop the man from jumping but lost his grip due to the loose clothing the man was wearing. The good Samaritan went down to the road and helped get the man and the boy off the road.
Both the man and the boy were taken to the hospital. The man died from his injuries, but police said the boy was not seriously injured and is expected to be released from the hospital in a couple of days.
The mother of the boy is reportedly with him at the hospital.
