RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - The Pennington County Sheriff’s Department is currently seeking medical professionals to work with inmates at the Pennington County Jail.
Several available positions include registered nurses, paramedics, and medical technicians for working at the jail safely. Miriam Nichols with the Pennington County Sheriffs Department said, “Working as a nurse in the emergency department and working as a paramedic on an ambulance, was much more dangerous than working at the jail because you have someone with you at all times watching out for your safety.”
Nichols also mentioned that working as a medical service provider at the jail has some advantages and that the benefits offered here are some of the best in the city. Nichols previously worked as a bedside nurse but wanted a change and found the autonomy she was given at the jail to be pleasantly surprising. While there are providers available 24/7, the medical staff takes care of a range of patients with varying medical histories.
