Man pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter for drunk driving

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - A man was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for a fatal crash on May 2 of last year on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

23-year-old Willie Wounded Jr. pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter back in January.

According to the factual basis statement in the case, Wounded was drunk and speeding when an SUV he was driving on Highway 18 near mile marker 94 crashed and overturned, killing his passenger 16-year-old Wendalynn Warrior.

Wounded’s blood alcohol level registered at .192 when taken after the crash.

In court today Wounded said, “When that day happened I thought about it a hundred times. I should have stayed put. Alcohol took over. I am truly sorry about that.”
