RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Even though Earth Day was still two days away, around 1,000 people showed up to the 2024 Earth Day Expo at Western Dakota Technical College.

Organized by faculty from Western Dakota Tech and South Dakota Mines along with the Rapid City Sustainability Committee and Dakota Rural Action, the event featured a variety of vendors and activities - all to promote environmental awareness in the Rapid City area.

“The goal of the event is to educate our community on sustainability and to just celebrate the environment with this Earth Day Expo,” Timmi Bubac, a member of the Earth Day Committee, said.

The expo featured a clothing swap, an electric car show, a tree sale, an exhibit of predatory birds from the Raptor Center, and an adoption event with the Rapid City Humane Society.

Numerous vendors also came by to interact with community members and show their contributions to local sustainability efforts.

Bubac and other organizers mentioned this event’s attendance topped the 2023 expo, and they hope the expo continues its growth in 2025.
