Young scientists enjoy the IceCube Masterclass at South Dakota Mines
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - South Dakota Mines welcomed a group of high schoolers to the Ice Cube Master Class to learn about the mysteries of the universe.
This event gave students an interactive experience to explore the world of astroparticle physics by working with real data from the Ice Cube Neutrino Observatory located in the South Pole. Nicholas Peterson is a science teacher from Newcastle High School and believes this hands-on learning event is worth the three-hour drive from Wyoming.
“We always try to encourage our students to not just be well-in-depth on the knowledge of our science but actually get hands-on experience, and here today we actually get to have them get that full grasp of what it means to be a scientist or how it actually is in the real-life world,” said Peterson.
The Ice Cube Masterclass is offered at several institutions worldwide, including Mines which are part of the Ice Cube Neutrino Observatory.
