RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Monday night, the City of Sturgis begins the process of reorganizing the way it will be governed.

On April 9, Sturgis residents voted to remove the city manager position and change the city to a mayor-led form of government. With the election results, the city manager position is officially eliminated.

At Monday night’s meeting in Sturgis, the city council will consider a resolution that will provide a shift of duties from the city manager position to the mayor.

The resolution will also replace references to “city manager” in current city ordinances, policies, and resolutions.

Sturgis Director of Communications Deb Holland says it’s vital for the city to put the resolution into effect.

" I think it really helps, helps our employees and everyone within the city to give them a feeling of, that we’re not rutter less. That we have a direction,” said Holland.

The resolution expires September 3, but could be terminated earlier if a city administrator is appointed before then.
